Father and daughter duo, Brian and Avery Gentry, to whom I introduced you in March, have opened their business at 724 North Broadway. Originally hoping to open in April, the business had a soft-soft opening for family and friends this past Saturday. They are open to the public for a soft opening beginning today.
The business was Avery’s idea. She’d worked in a donut shop and graduated form Carson Newman with a degree in social entrepreneurship. She approached her dad with the idea and they were off and running. They found the building at 724 North Broadway and fell in love with it, feeling they could make the just-under 1,000 square feet into a functioning donut shop, include everything from cooking the donuts to seeing the happy faces of customers.
Leon Williams Contractors completed the construction and Zarah Bates with Z Creative Group did the design. The result is a very attractive space with funky pallet-chandelier light fixtures , hardwood floors and window seating. The large windows facing Broadway flood the small space with light and makes it feel comfortable and larger than its modest square footage.
All the donuts are made from scratch at the shop and they’ve started with a range of donuts to meet a range of tastes, while making plans for a gluten-free and sugar-free protein donuts. The coffee served is provided by Mahalo Roasters, and it is available both by the cup and by the bag.
The shop will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm or until the donuts are gone. Next Saturday The Donut Shop has its grand opening from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. You can follow them on Instagram and Twitter or check in on their website.
