Just over two years ago, Logan and Katherine Higgins opened Jacks on at 133 South Gay Street with an eye toward offering their own goods, as well as those of other makers. They soon added coffee via Mark Lily and eventually, Mark’s wife Kendell introduced her plants to the business. A concept was born.
The four merged ownership and expanded the space on Gay Street to offer more seating for the coffee business. They also set their eye on expanding to a second location, settling on 854 North Central Street, the former location of the Hive. The new space is much larger and allowed them to bring their full vision for the business into play.
A grand opening was held late last month the business appears to be off to a great start. The new space allows for outside seating, with lots of distanced seating inside. Tables line the great windows fronting the building and a cozy seating spot in the back is great for a small group of friends.
The additional square footage has also allowed for a major expansion of Kendall’s plants, which run the length of the primary seating area and provide the room with a warmth perfectly suited for sitting by the large windows with the sun streaming through while enjoying an excellent cup of coffee.
You’ll also find a full range of maker’s products, as well, all served up with an awareness of environmental impact. You’ll find Katherine’s line of bath products, including hand soap containers that can be refilled at the store. The store offers shirts, purses, jewelry, bamboo toothbrushes and much more. What you won’t find are plastic products.
The shop is open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends and 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays.
