Knoxville has another nifty vintage shop for lovers of all things cool, old and thrifted!
You can find Abby Hamilton and Gracie Terry, the girls behind Spellbound Vintage and Art booths around town in pop-up markets and inside Mood Ring Vintage when it opened in 2022, now open in their first storefront at 716 S. Gay Street in the basement of The Holistic Connection. Yes, this means you must be 21+ to enter, but if vintage is your thing, you will surely find some unique goodies.
The space, once only used as an event venue for music, comedy, and art shows/classes hosted by The Holistic Connection, has been transformed into a haven for vintage enthusiasts. The walls are now adorned with beautiful murals from local artists like Madi Howarth, and the shelves are filled with unique vintage finds from Gracie and Abby.
Abby grew up near Knoxville and graduated from UT with a degree in photography. She spent seven years doing interior design and has also worked in retail. This experience led her to question the fast fashion and consumerism she was seeing and begin to think about more sustainable ways to shop.
Gracie grew up in Oak Ridge and graduated with a psychology degree from UT. She tells me she has had a love for second-hand clothing and home items since high school. She always imagined she would one day be able to find homes beyond her own for her thrifted treasures. Her partnership with Abby was the right fit for her passion for vintage and art.
They met through a mutual friend and discovered their love for estate sales, thrifting, and their eye for finding unique treasures. After setting up their homes with vintage pieces, things in their homes began to overflow. They began Spellbound Vintage to share these finds with the community. Abby told me she likes to look for those special, handmade items that are one of a kind. But that isn’t all you will find in Spellbound. They have a host of name-brand clothing items, jewelry, handbags and art on consignment from local artists. Supporting local artists is a passion for them. They are excited to have another place for artists to sell their work, whether it’s one or two pieces or a whole collection. Both Abby and Gracie are artists themselves, and you just might spy some of their own work in the shop!
However, they want to use the space for more than just sales. All of their displays are on wheels, so they can move everything around to give them room for yoga and art classes and to continue offering music, comedy and other community events for their customers.
Follow along on their social media HERE for more information on their hours of operation, class schedules and upcoming events.
