In February, I told you that South Landing Fitness would rebrand and expand, and they have done just that. Shane and Crissy Glarrow have rebranded the business as Landing Health and Performance and doubled their physical space to 6,000 sq ft to better serve their clients.
In my first interview with the Landing Health and Performance team, I was struck with their overall mindset around fitness and health. While they own a gym, they are not only concerned about their client’s physical health and wellness. They believe fitness and health are holistic and not reserved to your time in the gym. They began the renovations with the long-term goal in mind of changing the conversation around health and supporting clients’ goals globally around health. This physical expansion allows them to build on what they have been offering with fitness classes and tailored training programs but on a more complete level to keep changing the conversation around health in our community.
The renovations took several weeks to complete. Pannell Construction worked on the project from start to end. While the front of the building was renovated, operations and classes continued as usual in the back. When the front was completed, they moved all the equipment to the front to allow space for the back to be completed. They only had to close for a few days while the flooring was being finished. Now that both areas are open, they have doubled the square footage and the bathroom/shower facilities for their clients.
In addition to adding physical space, they have added new staff members, increasing their team to 10 people. Each one is invested in growing the conversation about health and what that looks like. Shane emphasized that he wants to be part of a more extensive conversation around health, meaning that health is more than the time you spend in the gym. Health is holistic and involves our mental and emotional well-being, physical fitness, and nutritional well-being.
During the holidays, we are all tempted to over-indulge and enjoy all the treats around us. Shane emphasized that doing this doesn’t waste the time and the commitment to health you have made for the rest of the year. Every positive choice we make for our mind and body is a step toward health, whether it is the earlier bedtime to get more rest or water instead of soda at lunch. The time in the gym and moving your body is valuable and helpful to our health, but missing a day (or a week) shouldn’t sideline you and defeat you.
Shane and Crissy feel the larger footprint of the business allows them to conduct semi-private, group, and individual training to the best of their ability. They are putting out a better product now, the product they always believed they could produce. They hear more from their members that they want to be around for their grandkids, and they want to be able to go into each day without a limit on their daily activities and less about the number on the scale. They see this as a positive shift in the direction of health in our community and the direction they hope to get more members focused on.
