Elle Nelson opened Monkey’s Bar, named for her beloved dog “Monkey,” quietly over the holidays. The warm little oasis at 103 W. Depot (corner of Central and Depot) seems set to become the kind of neighborhood bar she envisioned. (You can get the details of that vision in my original article on the bar.) They celebrated their grand opening this past Friday night.

I stopped in early in the evening to get a look at the new space and a taste of what’s being offered. I found a number of couples and friends already gathered and enjoying the new seating, new beverages, and the cozy vibe. I also found a delicious Old Miller. The drinks are 90s themed with Gossip Girl references and more from the decade. It’s fun, but the drinks are seriously good.

Check them out when you get a chance. The bar is open Tuesday-Thursday, 4:00 pm – Midnight and Friday and Saturday from 4:00 pm -1:00 am. You can follow them on Facebook, Instagram, or learn more on their website (complete drink menu, including non-alcoholic drinks, there).
