Many things run through my mind on this day. As you all know, music is never far from my thoughts. In thinking about this post, I remembered the movie “Born on the Fourth of July” with Tom Cruise, which lead me to think about the primary music video from the movie: Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians’ version of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” Enjoy the video below, but download Bob’s version (A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall).
The second song that comes to my mind connected with the date is Born On The Bayou by Creedence Clearwater Revival, perhaps the greatest pure rock and roll band of all time. In the song John waxes nostalgic about the holiday as he sings, “I can remember the Fourth of July, running through the backwoods bare.” Who can’t relate to that? If that doesn’t arouse your love of the holiday, maybe his lead guitar and the ace rhythm work of Doug Cliffords and Stu Cook will do the job. This is the band caught in their prime, hold on tight. There is a reason it has been viewed over eight million times. Check it out. And happy holiday, ya’ll.
