How People Recreate Vacation Spaces in Their Own Backyards

What’s not to like about a vacation? You hear people all the time say how they’d give a limb to be able to spend more time on vacation.

No work, no stress, possibly a tropical destination, and you’ve got yourself the real American dream.

The problem with vacation is that it ends sooner or later, and then you’re right back in the daily grind, depressed because you’re no longer lounging in the sun sipping cocktails. Well, people have figured out that you could kind of sort of make their backyards look and feel like vacation spots. It’s not the same as going to the Maldives, but hey. It’s something.

If you want to see how to turn a bland patch of grass into something relaxing and pleasant, read on.

Why Backyard Retreats Are Becoming More Popular

Let’s be real for a second. Vacation costs money, and stepping into your backyard doesn’t.

So there’s one of the reasons why people are turning their backyards into spaces that resemble vacation spots. But that’s not the only reason.

Travelling is great for many reasons, but one of the most important ones is that it lowers stress. But not everyone wants to wait for those 2 weeks to slow down.

You probably want to relax during a regular Wednesday, even if that means doing nothing more than sipping coffee on your patio. An outdoor space gives your brain a break from screens, noise, and the usual routine, but you don’t have to leave your house in order to have that break.

Family time and entertainment are also factors. If you have a nice, comfortable backyard, it’s super simple to invite friends over, celebrate birthdays, and just spend time together outside in the fresh air. Even quiet evenings feel different if you’re not cooped up in the house.

Of course, you can’t talk about backyard makeovers without going over the practical side of it. It’s a fact that a well-designed backyard makes your home more appealing and, if you were to sell it one day, you’d be able to put a higher price on it.

Outdoor Features That Bring That Vacation Feeling Home

If you’ve traveled at all, it’s probably changed the way you think of outdoor spaces.

Visit any beach resort or a mountain lodge, and you’ll see there are plenty of outdoor areas all designed with relaxation in mind. There are shaded spots to sit, lounging areas, greenery, water features, and it’s those details you remember once you come back home.

So why not incorporate some of them into your backyard?

Shaded Areas for Relaxing

Every vacation spot has shade, which is not something you can say for all backyards.

It could be a pergola, a large umbrella, a covered patio, or just trees placed around so they create shade. Without it, people don’t like to spend too much time outside, especially during the summer months.

Look at your own backyard, and if there’s no shade anywhere, change that. That one thing could be all you need to truly enjoy your backyard.

Comfortable Outdoor Seating and Lounges

Have you ever been to a resort that didn’t have anywhere to sit? No, right? And those seating areas aren’t your basic old lawn chairs but lounge chairs, fluffy outdoor sofas, and even daybeds.

You don’t actually have to have a daybed next to your grill, but think about swapping lawn chairs for something more comfortable and stylish. Seating makes a huge difference because it makes the space look and feel more inviting.

Water Features and Pools

Many people associate water with vacation, so think about incorporating some water elements in your backyard. If you want to go all out and have a pool, you’ll pretty much have a resort spot on your property.

However, pools can be tricky, so don’t focus on the looks alone.

If you live here in Tennessee, you’re in luck because the swimming season is relatively long and the winters are mild, so you don’t have to worry about super deep plumbing.

However, if you’re in a state like Pennsylvania, that’s not the case. Any custom pool builder Malvern PA residents use will tell you that you need strong winterization and a cover for the cold winter months.

If you don’t want to spend that kind of money, though, a small fountain or a pond will do the trick.

You’ll still get that pleasant sound and movement of water and bring a calming vibe into your backyard.

Conclusion

Your backyard shouldn’t be a leftover space, so don’t treat it like it is.

As you’ve seen, it doesn’t take that much to turn it into something resembling a vacation spot.

A good vacation will stay in your memory long after you unpack your bags, but coming home can be depressing sometimes. If you have a nice backyard to relax in, where you can pretend you’re on vacation even though you got off work 2 hours ago, getting back into the daily grind will be much easier.

Not to mention how pleasant it is to have a well-designed backyard where you can rest, entertain, read, work out, etc.
