What: The City of Knoxville, Knox County, the Knoxville–Knox County Sports Authority, and Visit Knoxville are exploring the potential redevelopment of Knoxville Municipal Golf Course (3925 Schaad Road) into a modern, multi-use recreational destination. The approximately 156-acre property is being evaluated for improvements that could include a redesigned public golf course, a multi-field sports complex, and supporting commercial amenities.

The proposed project aims to enhance public recreation, expand opportunities for local youth and adult sports, and strengthen Knoxville’s ability to host regional and national sporting events.

Residents, golfers, sports organizations, nearby neighborhoods, and other interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the draft RFP language and participate in these public input opportunities. Written feedback may be submitted via the form at the bottom of this website, and additionally there are two public meetings for in-person feedback. Written public comment period on RFP closes on November 2, 2026.

  • October 27, 2026, at 9-10:30AM
    • Sports Authority public hearing on draft RFP

  1. Currently there is no plans to view for the Knoxville Municipal Golf Course Redevelopment. As residents that back up to the planned property, are you planning for privacy fencing and/or high density landscaping to reduce the public from entering from Blakewood. Also the city has still not put in the additional traffic lights and lanes on Schaad Rd. for the current traffic overflow. This project will certainly only add additional large scale traffic that needs to be addressed before any redevelopment starts. Finish the current problems you have first before doing anything new. This seems like putting the cart before the horse.

  2. As a resident directly impacted by any changes to this area I am expressing my complete opposition to it. For almost twenty years we’ve lived in an area that until the last couple of years had very little change. We went from a back road to a busy main road, that eventually will be widened. We can barley accommodate the traffic we currently have. Much of the beautiful open fields have plans for development, slowly but surely encroaching on our way of living. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know many don’t appreciate the idea of higher taxes, residential space turning into commercial space, extra noise, lights, cement, instead of acres and acres of beautiful open land. Choose an area that doesn’t force homeowners to feel they’re sharing their backyards with the entire community, please.

  3. My home is next to the golf course. We chose this area because it was convenient but off the beaten path. Close to the city, yet surrounded by wide open spaces. Schaad Rd will never feel like an old country road again, but there’s no excuse for it to become a place where residents feel their neighborhood is more home to the entire community as a sporting arena. Knoxville isn’t so overpopulated that a less residential area can’t accommodate this grand plan. We’ve gone from farm land with cows and goats to bumper to bumper traffic, pop up housing, and now this. It seems a reasonable expectation that between Pleasant Ridge Rd and Oak Ridge Hwy, we could respect this space and treat it as the residential area it is. I for one do not want to see a hotel, a high rise, a fast food, or a bunch of ugly offices start popping up. And if we’re not taken into consideration, who is paying the extra taxes, making the road safe by adding lights, ensuring our views aren’t destroyed, and the noise isn’t obnoxious? The only development close to acceptable for a residential area is one like Belltown, but even then, no thank you.

  4. I oppose the proposed multi-sport recreational facility at this location. I chose to live in this area because it is close to necessary services while remaining quiet and relatively secluded. Residents are already dealing with traffic issues and are awaiting road improvements. Adding a large recreational complex would bring significantly more traffic and congestion to the area. I do not support this proposal.

  5. I am a resident of Blakewood Condominiums & I am planning to attend the meeting Thursday afternoon, October 22.
    I am concerned about our property values, traffic concerns, concerns as to where the fields will be located, etc.

  6. I am a resident of Blakewood Condominiums and my patio is on the 12th hole of the golf course. Because of aging parents and care-giving responsibilities, we moved here 22 years ago from a house in the woods in Claxton. We chose Blakewood and the golf course side thinking that it would be highly improbable that the golf course would be sold out to developers. I’ve had to call the police more than once because of late night music noise from the food park in front of Food City on Oak Ridge Hwy, which is farther away than any golf course development would be. It is quiet and dark here at night. I see golfers out every day enjoying the beauty around them. Don’t let greed destroy that. The increase in noise pollution, light pollution, traffic, potential for increased opportunistic crime, increased taxes, and other factors are why I greatly oppose the proposal.
